Hi, I’m Jane Jia-yin,

a Ph.D. candidate

in the Department of Sociology at the University of Albany, State University of New York.

I study culture, gender, immigration, and reproductive health. Specifically, my research areas include Asia/Asian America, skilled immigration, and maternal health.

I’m interested in learning how people understand the world and make sense of their choices within it. In other words, I research individuals’ meaning-making processes and how they are connected to structural forces.

I also hold an M.A. in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

and a Graduate Studies Certificate in Demography.
